From WhatsApp Group to Organized Chapter: One Member's Story

Adaeze Mbachu runs a group chat of 312 women in Lagos. Teachers, market traders, civil servants, nurses. All engaged. All frustrated by the same things.

'We talked every day,' she says, 'but nothing ever happened. No structure, no follow-through, no way to hold anyone accountable.'

She joined WIP in January. By March, that WhatsApp group had become an official WIP chapter — with officers, a meeting schedule, and its first civic education session on local government elections.

'WIP gave us the bones,' she says. 'The community already existed. We just needed the structure to make it real.'

This is what the platform does. It takes the energy that already exists in women's spaces across Nigeria and gives it somewhere to go.
